ROOTED Carcharodontosaurus Tooth not T. Theropod Dinosaur 3.58 0849.
Here is a quality Carcharodontosarid tooth from the upper Cretaceous of the Kem Kem Group in Morocco. It measures 3.58 inches. This is a fantastic, rooted tooth with only minor crack fill. The root has a thin layer of hard matrix that did not come off easily with the micro blaster. I didn't want to risk damage (I also just didn't have the patience) taking it all off.
As far as large theropod dinosaur tooth go, these are somewhat common. In the world of dinosaurs, restoration is just a fact of life. Unlike restored shark teeth which are frowned upon by most collectors, it's not unusual and a common practice to restore dinosaur fossils. They rarely come out of the ground unscathed from the tens of millions of years being buried. With that said, I'll disclose anything that I see that might be restoration or just the stabilization of cracks. When I acquire these teeth, they are coated in a fairly heavy coat of stabilizing glue from the field. I remove the glue with solvents and also gently micro blast the tooth to remove most of the extra matrix or granules of sand and any remaining haze from the glue. Since this takes quite a bit of time I only give this treatment to the better quality teeth. Megalodon Teeth up to 3 1/2. Megalodon Teeth 3.5+" - 4.5".
